Feile Boys Final
Clann na nGael 4-07 Padraig Pearses 3-12
Commiserations to the U-14's lads who narrowly missed out in getting to the national finals, by virtue of a narrow defeat to Padraig Pearses. The match finished in a welter of excitement as time ran out on Clann as they tried to claw back a massive lead by Pearses at half-time. Clann were first to register a score as Darragh Petit ran through to point within seconds of the throw-in, but a very polished Pearses team soon ran in the scores and at half-time they lead by eleven points, 3-8 to 1-3. Pearses even increased their lead to twelve points early in 2nd half before a magnificent Clann fightback. A Darragh Petit goal and points from Rudhrai McManus and Michael Hardiman reduced the arrears but Pearses added a couple more points before Owen Forde pointed for Clann. When Rian McNamara sent over a great cross which substitute Malcolm O'Hanlon volleyed to the back of net, the comeback was on and both sets of supporters became very vocal. Darragh Petit set off a run and when a couple of Pearses defenders robbed him of possession but he let fly off the ground from about 20 yards out and the ball flew past the keeper to set up a grandstand finish. A Ruadrai McManus free at the end of normal time reduced the arrears to the bare minimum but credit to Pearses that when all the momentum was against them they put a move together to score the last point of the game deep into injury time. This was a great game with the whole Clann team putting their shoulder to the wheel and showing great belief in the 2nd half which augers well for the championship. Clann had many heroes with Martin Costelloe, James McManus when switched and substitute Oliver O'Neill excelling at the back, Darragh Petit, Owen Forde, Rian McNamara, Rudhrai McManus all playing a large part in a team performance but a special mention for Paul Mannion who put in a tremendous performance all through the game. The management team of Eamon Harney, Gerry Petit and Joe Fallon deserve great credit for the performance and discipline of the lads.
Team: Kevin Molloy, Patrick Harney, Steve Flynn, Martin Costelloe, Pierce Harney-Nolan, Paul Mannion, Shane Petit, Michael Hardiman (0-1), Darragh Petit (2-1), Shane Lennon, James McManus, Rudhrai McManus (0-3), Owen Forde(0-1), Ultan Harney (1-0), Rian McNamara (0-1). Feile Girls Final
Clann na nGael 1-6 St Brigids 1-0
The Thomas Nolan & Co sponsored U-14 girls defeated St Bridgets on Wednesday evening in Kiltoom to book their place at the national finals in Cavan. This game was played in dry but bitter cold conditions, with a strong wind which favoured Clann in the first half. It was a half which Clann dominated with lots of possession but found it difficult to put the scores on the board. However points from Rebecca Naughton, Kayleigh Dunning, Orla O'Neill and Aileen McEvilly soon settled them. Clann's midfield of Orla O'Neill and Katie Rock along with half backs Gillian Wall, Louise Curley and Ellen Harney were the launchpad of many attacks and and finally one these resulted in a goal from substitute Karen Nicholson. The half-time score was Clann 1-06 to no score for St Brigids. Clann faced into a wind on the resumption which stiffened as the game wore on. Ciara Galvin and Ciara Costelloe were outstanding in defence with Rebecca Naughton covering every inch of the pitch. Clann celebrated the win on referee's Ray Burke's final whistle and Captain Ellen Harney accepted the Shield on behalf of the team. Congratulations to their managers Kevin Naughton and Terry O'Neill and all that helped out in preparing the team. The National Finals will be played on the weekend 4th, 5th and 6th July.

Roscommon Feile Girls Final

Feile Peil na nOg Girls Final
Clann na nGael 1-6   St Brigids 1-0
Clann U-14 girls defeated St Bridgets on Wednesday evening in Kiltoom to book their weekend at the national finals in Cavan. This game was played in dry, but bitter cold conditions, with a strong wind which favoured Clann in the first half. It was a half which Clann dominated with lots of possession but found it difficult to put the scores on the board against a strong defence. However points from Rebecca Naughton, Kayleigh Dunning and Aileen McEvilly soon settled them. The Brigids goalkeeper Emily Staunton and defenders Sarah Daly and Catherine Galvin were performing brilliantly repelling attack after attack. Clann's midfield of Orla O'Neill and Katie Rock along with centre back Gillian Wall were the launchpad of many attacks  and finally one these resulted in a goal from substitute Karen Nicholson. Clann faced into a wind on the resumption which stiffened as the game wore on. It was evening when defences were on top, with both sets of  defenders working hard and executing the block tackle to good effect. Ciara Galvin and Ciara Costelloe were outstanding in the Clann defence but St Brigids finally got their goal when Sarah O'Rourke finished excellently after good approach work from Katie Kennedy. That was end of the scoring as Clann celebrated the win on referee's Ray Burke's final whistle and captain Ellen Harney accepted the Shield from County Board Secretary Francis Keane on behalf of the team.

U-14 Boys Feile
Clann na nGael 3-07 St Ciarans 2-10
Clann U-14's are certainly taking the scenic route in their quest to win Roscommon Feile. This evening they drew with St Ciarans after a great comeback and were unlucky not to snatch victory with the last kick of the game. Darragh Petit took a long range free and as it dropped short it was fisted over the bar by a Clann player but the referee had already blown the final whistle. St Ciarans started strongly and had 4 points on the scoreboard before a Darragh Petit free opened Clann's account. This was followed quickly by a Ultan Harney point but St Ciarans were still in control and kicked several wides before extending their lead with further points and just before half-time they snatched a goal which left Clann with a mountain to climb for the  2nd half. Half-time score Clann 0-03 St Ciarans 1-06.
Within a minute of the re-start Rudhrai McManus struck a powerful daisy-cutter which nutmegged both a defender and goalkeeper and ended in the back of the net. Soon afterwards a shot from Darragh Petit destined for the roof of the net, was brilliantly tipped away by the St Ciarans goalkeeper but a free from the same player reduced the deficit to 2 points. St Ciarans then struck for a brilliant goal and 2 further points from play gave them a seven point lead. Then with 13 minutes to go Rian McNamara stuck the ball in the bottom corner of the net. Both sides swapped points before pressure from the Clann forwards forced an own goal to take the lead. St Ciarans equalised with a free from a tight angle to give both teams another day.

U-14 Boys Feile Replay
Clann na nGael 4-09 St Ciarans 1-07
Clann U-14's qualified for the Feile Final by virtue of hard fought battle with St Ciaran's in Johnstown on Monday evening. Despite the large winning margin, this game hung in the balance until a brilliant penalty save from Kevin Molloy broke St Ciarans hearts and Clann  quickly followed this with their third goal from Owen Forde. Kevin then tipped another ball over the bar which was destined for the top corner before centre back Paul Mannion wrapped it up with Clann's fourth goal. It looked all so different in the first minute when St Ciarans scored a goal from a fisted effort of the underside of the crossbar. Clann soon took the lead with points from Darragh Petit, James McManus (2) and Rian McNamara. A great goal from Rudhrai McManus gave them a 3 point lead at half-time. St  Ciaran's narrowed the margin to the bare minimum early in second half before Rian McNamara finished a great goal to the bottom corner after being well set up by Owen Forde. The difference was 6 points when Kevin Molloy stopped the penalty and after that Clann looked in control. There were great displays from all 18 players and the contributions of substitutes Ollie O'Neill, Owen Forde and Darragh Golden were particularly significant. They now play Padraig Pearses in the final next Sunday in Ballyforan at 6pm.
Team: Kevin Molloy, Patrick Harney, Steve Flynn, Martin Costelloe, Pierce Harney-Nolan, Paul Mannion (1-0), Shane Petit, Michael Hardiman, Darragh Petit (0-2), Mark Nicholson, James McManus (0-2), Shane Lennon, Rudhrai McManus (1-1), Ultan Harney (0-1), Rian McNamara (1-2). Subs; Owen Forde (1-1), Oliver O'Neill, Darragh Golden, Aaron Shine, Cian Cunniffe, Dylan Carberry, Jason Naughton, Richard McManus, David Kearney, David Kildea.

U-16 Championship Q/Final
Clann na nGael 3-14 St Ciaran's 1-04
Clann U-16s had a big win over St Ciarans in Feurty on Sunday morning. This was a great team performance from Stephen Shine in goal who made one particularly outstanding save to all 5 subs who all made contributions to the game. The foundation of this win was in the first half  where Clann's lead was 2-10 to 0-01. The goals coming from Daniel Qualter and Dermot Higgins who scored two. Clann played some good football throughout and used the ball intelligently in setting up their many scores. They now play Boyle in the semi-final on Sunday 27th of April.
Team: S. Shine, K. O'Neill, D. Egan, C. O'Reilly, D. Harrington, M. McManus, G. Lennon, J. Harney, D. Qualter, E. Kenny, D. Higgins, C. Duffy, A. Harrington, D. Glynn, D. O'Connor. Subs, J. Finnerty, F. Lennon, W. Shine, E. McManus, J. Farrell.

Division 4 League
Clann na nGael 1-09   Kilbride 1-06
Clann had a hard fought win over Kilbride last Friday evening in Johnstown. Clann got off to a good start with 2 points from Emmet O'Connor and when half way through the first half Graham Petit hit the back of the net with a powerful shot it looked like Clann were in complete control. However Kilbride got a goal back of their own when a 45 was defected by a Kilbride player past Joe Fallon in the Clann goal. Two long range frees from JP Dunning and a another point from Emmet, curled over from a tight angle, left Clann leading at half -time by 3 points. Points from substitutes Sean Walsh and Fergal Shine lifted the Kilbride siege in the 2nd half and allowed Clann some breathing space at the end. A special mention for Emmet O'Connor who was back playing football after a long lay-off. Playing in a new  position in the full forward line Emmet looked as if never stopped playing and scored three points from play in what was a very accomplished performance.
Team: Joe Fallon, Fintan Kenny, Shane Gavin, Paddy Clogher, Keith Kildea, Paul Curley, Morgan Keena, John Paul Dunning (0-4), Kevin Conneely, Michael Haugh, Graham Petit (1-0), Niall Lennon, Emmet O'Connor (0-3), Paul Whyte, Alan Shine. Subs Cormac Harney, Sean Walsh (0-1), Fergal Shine (0-1), Mickey Shine.

Home Composting DIY Workshops

Make Composting your Springtime Resolution

Roscommon County Council is encouraging all householders with a garden to start Home Composting organic waste this Spring. Organic waste including teabags, fruit/vegetable peelings and garden clippings can be easily composted at home along with your waste newspapers and cardboard. Composting can reduce your household waste by up to one third - this is good for the environment and will also help you to save money. There are numerous benefits to composting including providing a nutrient rich soil improver, while at the same time helping to protect the remaining fragile bogs across Ireland by avoiding peat based garden fertilisers.

Click here to download an information leaflet. (PDF Document, Size: 1282Kb).

In order to help those starting on the road to composting and to assist already keen composters, Roscommon County Council are holding free Home Compost Demonstrations at Farmers Markets during the month of April. The Compost Demonstrations will outline ways of producing good compost at home and will include set up of your cone, the dos and don'ts of composting, and trouble shooting. People will also have the opportunity to drop-in at any stage during the day for compost clinics where they can ask the experts for advice on starting composting or how to solve any problems with their compost bin.

The workshop in Roscommon town takes place in Roscommon Farmers Market: Fri April 18th 10am - 1pm. Demonstrations at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm presented by Nuala Madigan from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. Drop in Compost Clinics Open all day.

Clann had a good win over St. Ronans in Abbey Park , Boyle  in what were windy but dry conditions on Sunday. Playing with the wind on their backs in the first half Clann held 0-7 to 0-1 lead. An excellent penalty by Jonathon Dunning in the second secured the win with good performances from Ray Fallon, Niall Kennedy and Ronan Killian in defence, Gary Shine ruled midfield and with David Lennon, Emmet Rock, Johnny Dunning and Kevin Kenny working hard up front. On the down side there were injuries to Ronan Gavin and Emmet Rock to add to the already long list of injured.

Subs John Paul Dunning for Ronan Gavin, Enda Kenny (0-1) for Emmet Rock and Ross Naughton for Paul Dunning.

Clann na nGael (2) 3-09 Creggs 2-09
The Clann 2nd team enjoyed an exciting win in Cushla Park on Saturday evening. The match was played in blustery conditions with heavy showers, but nonetheless produced some good passages of play. Creggs played with the elements in their favour in the first half and lead by 0-6 to 0-2. An early 2nd half goal increased their lead to 8 points before the Clann fight back began. A goal from David Lennon was followed quickly by a Creggs og before points from Kevin Kenny and David Henry gave Clann the lead. However a 2nd Creggs goal took the momentum away from Clann until David O'Neill was pushed over in the large parallelogram and Ian O'Reilly slotted home the resulting penalty to give Clann a three point victory.

U-16 League - Clann na nGael 5-08 Western Gaels 1-4
Clann U-16s had a big win over Western Gaels in Frenchpark on Sunday morning. They had a whirlwind start with goals from Daniel Qualter, Emmet Kenny, Darragh Glynn and Daniel O'Connor to leave the half-time score 5-3 to 0-3 but Clann also had Stephen Shine in goal to thank for a few smart saves to leave such a wide gap between the teams at the break. Next weekend they play St Ciarans in the Quarter-Finals of the championship.
Team; Stephen Shine, Kealon O'Neill, Darragh Egan, Cian O'Reilly, Mark Connaughton, Michael McManus, Gearoid Lennon, John Harney, Daniel Qualter (2-1), David Harrington, Dermot Higgins (0-2), Emmet Kenny (1-5), Daniel O'Connor (1-0), Darragh Glynn (1-0), Cian Duffy. U-14 Feile Replay - Clann na nGael 3-09 St Dominics 3-07
This replay was equally as exiting as the drawn game last Wednesday. Playing with the aid of a howling gale in the first half Clann looked to have missed their chance by only leading 0-5 to 1-1. However the scores were tit for tat in the second half with the winning goal coming from a brave Darragh Petit who had played on despite receiving the full force of the ball in the face earlier in the match. Two excellent frees against the wind from Rudhrai McManus were other highlights and there were also great performances from Paul Mannion and Pierce Harney-Nolan in defence. They now play St Ciarans in Feurty at 6.45pm on this Thursday coming.

U-14 Girls Championship 07/04/2008
Clann na nGael 8-06 St Mary's 3-01
With a number of Roscommon players on both teams, this was expected to be a serious battle and so it turned out in the 1st half. Played in calm conditions St Mary's took control to take a 6 point lead. A goal from Orla O'Neill and another from Kayleigh Dunning when she soloed from midfield right through the whole of the St Mary's defence to score left Clann trailing 3-01 to 2-02 at half time. In the second half though the Clann defence tightened up with great displays from Marissa Murray in goal, captain Ellen Harney, Ciara Galvin and Ciara Costelloe to keep St Mary's scoreless. Louise Curley and Katie Rock worked hard for Kayleigh, Rebecca, Aileen and Orla to get the scores up front. The scoring was completed by a goal from substituted Gemma Nicholson. The workrate and tackling by all the Clann forwards was impressive and also the stamina as  they never stopped pressing forward throughout the game. Now the team looks forward to the Feile Final against St Bridgets next Wednesday 16th in Kiltoom.
Panel: Marissa Murray, Leanne O'Connor, Ciara Galvin, Ciara Costelloe, Ellen Harney, Gillian Wall, Karen Nicholson, Katie Rock, Orla O'Neill (3-2), Anna Shine, Kayleigh Dunning (2-1), Aileen McEvilly (2-0), Louise Curley, Rebecca Naughton (0-3), Melissa Glynn, Saoirse McManus, Gemma Nicholson (1-0), Hazel Menton, Jennifer Duignan, Deirdre Ward and Aoibhinn Golden.

Clann U14's
The Clann na nGael U 14 team travelled to Salthill on Sunday last to take part in the home clubs tournament which also featured Eire Og (Carlow) and Castlebar Mitchell's (Mayo). Clann took on Eire Og in their first game and were on top for long periods but in the end they were very unlucky to lose by 2 points. Clann were well beaten by a strong Salthill-Knocknacarra team in the second game after being denied several goals by the home keeper in the opening minutes of the game. Clann played Castlebar Mitchell's in their final game and won by 3 – 6 to 2 – 1. The lads played their best football of the day in this game and were deserving winners. The players and management would like to thank Salthill-Knocknacarra for the invitation to play in this very well run tournament. Panel: Kevin Molloy, Patrick Harney, Oliver O'Neill, Shane Petit, Paul Mannion, Darragh Petit, Pierce Harney-Nolan, Michael Hardiman, Rudhrai McManus, Shane Lennon, Steve Flynn, Darragh Golden, Rian McManus, Ultan Harney, James McManus, Malcolm O'Hanlon, Jason Naughton, Dylan Carbery, Colm Meehan, Richard McManus, Aaron Shine, Mark Nicholson.

Ladies Senior League
Clann na nGael 3-04 Roscommon Gaels 1-04
Clann Ladies had a hard fought win over Roscommon Gaels in Cushla Park last Sunday. After 10 minutes of wasteful shooting Maeve Harney settled things with a left-footed point from an acute angle and was quickly followed by a goal from Michelle Harney-Nolan. Two more goals from Maeve and Michelle put Clann in the driving seat before half-time. Playing into the breeze in the 2nd half Clann defended well with Aisling Curley, Aisling Egan and Cathy Watson to the fore and they closed out the game with points from Ciara Fallon and Ruth Finlass. The whole team worked very hard for this win with Eileen Goode in goal and Ciara Fallon who covered inch of the large pitch pushing each other hard for player of the match. Team; Eileen Goode, Michelle Keegan, Cathy Watson, Kathy Doran O'Rourke, Amy O'Reilly, Julie Curley, Aisling Egan, Ruth Finlass (0-1), Ciara Fallon(0-1), Aisling Curley, Maeve Harney (1-1), Michelle Harney-Nolan(2-1), Joanne Naughton, Tracey Keegan.
