Clann na nGael Notes

O'Rourke Cup

The Clann na nGael senior team entertained St Brigid's in Johnstown on Saturday evening last. The large crowd present saw Clann dominate possession in the opening period. However the visitors went in at the break 0-7 to 0-5 up. St Brigid's assumed control of the second half and ran out deserving winners. Clann never gave up, and probably could of got a share of the spoils with all the possession they had.
Team and scorers: Ronan O'Reilly 0-1, Seanie Walsh, Eugene Petit, Ray Fallon, Ronan Gavin, Dara Shine, Niall McManus 0-1, Brian Goode 0-1, Graham Petit, Emmet Rock, Alan Dunne 0-4, David Lennon 0-1, Colin Nicholson, Matt Scally 0-1, Ronan Killian. Sub: Mark Shine.

The Clann na nGael minor team travelled to Lisnamult to take on Roscommon Gaels on Sunday last. The small Clann crowd present saw Clann get off to a a slow start as the home side led by 2-4 to 0-3 at the midway stage of the first half. Clann rallied in the latter stages of the half and helped by a Willie Shine goal Clann reduced the arrears to 4 points at the break, 2-8 to 1-7. The Clann lads tore into their opponents in the second half and worked their socks to reduce the arrears to 2 points with the game entering injury time. Clann were not going to accept a narrow defeat and a great team goal was finished to the back of the Gaels net by Emmet Kenny, to win the game for the lads. This was Clanns best performance in the league so far and all 16 players showed a level of tenacity that their opponents were unable to match.

  • Membership: Clann na nGael have now completed members and Insurance registration for 2011. Any outstanding membership fees should be paid to Padraig Seery ASAP.

Clann na nGael Notes

Tansey Cup
Clann na nGael 1-10 Shannon Gaels 0-9
The Clann na nGael Junior A team overcame a fourteen man Shannon Gaels team on a damp Saturday in Johnstown. Both sides tore into to each other from the first whistle and Clann were on top at the break by 0-5 to 0-4. It was tit for tat for the majority of the second period, however a goal from Graham Petit put a bit more daylight between the sides. Clann had to withstand a late Shannon Gaels onslaught to hold for a deserved victory.
Team and scorers: Ronan O'Reilly, Keith Kildea, Daniel Harney, Ray Fallon, Darragh Egan, John Harney, Seanie Walsh, Dara Shine, Emmet Rock, Graham Petit 1-1, Alan Dunne 0-5, Phelim Lenehan, Fergal Shine, Colin Nicholson, Emmet Kenny 0-2. Subs: Ronan Gavin 0-2 Ronan Killian.

U16 League
Clann na nGael 0-9 St. Croans 2-11
The Clann na nGael under 16 team team traveled to Ballintubber to take on St. Croans on Sunday morning last. A good showing in the first half had Clann trailing their hosts 0-6 to 0-5 at half time. Clann went ahead early in the second half, but St. Croans rattled the Clann net twice in as many minutes to take control of the game. Clann tried in vain to gain parity as St. Croans held on as deserving winners. The Clann team and mentors were unhappy when they arrived at the venue they had to wait for over an hour for the throw in, as there was another game being played.
Team: Shane Scally, Martin Costello, Paddy Harney, Arran O'Reilly, Jack Connaughton, Shane Petit, Martin Flannery, Cillian Bannon, Malcom O'Hanlon, Shane Lacey, David Connaughton, Jamie Fahy, Eoin Forde, Rian Mc Namara, Arran Shine. Sub: Mark Shine

U16 League
Clann na nGael 2-4 St Barry's 2-15
The Clann na nGael suffered their second defeat in the league in Tarmonbarry on Sunday morning last. The scoreline does not do the lads justice who produced a much improved performance from the first game of the year.
Team and scorers: Dylan Colgan, Ritchie McManus, Dylan Earle, Ian Wall, Dean Tobin, Gary Mannion 1-0, Jonathon Murray, Fergal Lennon 1-4, Sean Kenny, Colin Meehan, Evin Cunniffe. Subs: David Kildea, Sean McManus, Luke Dolan.

Club Lotto
Congratulations to Kevin O'Brien who scooped the Clann na nGael lotto jackpot of €11,400, and the lucky seller was James Curley. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 10, 20 and there was 20 match 3 winners each receiving €30. Next week's jackpot will be E2,000 and the draw is in The Grove.

Clann na nGael Notes

Tansey Cup
Clann na nGael 2-10 Strokestown 1-9
The Clann na nGael Junior A team won their first game of the campaign with a hard fought win over Strokestown on a splendid Johnstown surface on Saturday evening last. Despite the arctic conditions the visitors were red hot in the early stages and led by 1-1 to 0-0 after 7 minutes. Clann took control as the half wore on and goals from Dara Shine and Colin Nicholson put Clann 2-4 to 1-5 up at the break. Clann assumed control of the game in the second half and ran out deserving winners. Best for Clann were Darragh Egan, Alan Dunne, Phelim Lenehan and Seanie Walsh.
Team: Joseph Fallon, Keith Kildea, Daniel Harney, Ray Fallon, Darragh Egan, John Harney, Seanie Walsh, Dara Shine, Emmet Rock, Graham Petit, Alan Dunne, Phelim Lenehan, Fergal Shine, Colin Nicholson, Emmet Kenny. Subs: Thomas Keogh, Niall Lennon, Andy McNamara.

Clann were a different team after the restart and points from Emmet Kenny 4 and Dan O'Connor put Clann within striking distance of Glaveys. Clann were rewarded with a Stevie Flynn goal and a Darragh Petit point in the closing stages to set up a grandstand finale. Glaveys held on for a win, but a draw would have been probably the fairest result. Clann were well served by Stevie Flynn, Darragh Golden, Darragh Egan, Emmet Kenny and James Farrell.

Pearses were not finished and they split the posts twice to keep in touch. Another Matt Scally goal was followed up by points from Jonathon Dunning 2 and Ronan Gavin to seal the points for Clann. Clann na nGael Notes

Tansey Cup
The Clann na nGael Junior A team opened their Tansey Cup campaign with a draw with Western Gaels in Johnstown on Saturday evening last. Clann played the best football for long periods of the game, but still found themselves 3 points down entering the closing stages of the encounter. Clann rallied with 3 late points to secure a well deserved point.
Team: Cathal Hannon, Keith Kildea, Daniel Harney, Ray Fallon, Ronan Gavin, Denis Gavin, Seanie Walsh, Emmet Rock, Dara Shine, Graham Petit, Alan Dunne, David Lennon, Enda Kenny, Colin Nicholson, Emmet Kenny. Sub: Ronan Killian.

Minor League
Clann na nGael 0-13 Boyle 3-13
The Clann na nGael minor team took the long trek to Boyle on Sunday to commence their league with a game against Boyle. Clann started the game like men possessed and were 0-5 to 0-1 up after 14 minutes. Boyle came back with 2 more points, but Dan O'Connor halted their gallop with a well taken point to put Clann 3 points to the good. With half time fast approaching it looked Clann would go in at the break on top, however Boyle hit a purple patch with a flurry of 1-4 to lead by 1-7 to 0-6 at the interval. Clann came out unfazed after the Boyle onslaught before the break and a Emmet Kenny point reduced the arrears. Once again Boyle went on the rampage for few minutes with a 1-2 blast. Clann were still not rattled and it was tit for tat right up to the end. Boyle netted a third goal in the closing the stages, before Dara Petit concluded the scoring for Clann with 2 fine points. The final scoreline doesn't do justice to the lads and they probably deserved a share of the spoils.
Team and scorers: Connor Dolan, Mark Connaughton, Stevie Flynn, Paul Mannion, Pierce Harney Nolan, Dara Egan, Shane Petit, Dara Petit (0-2), James Farrell, Emmet Kenny 0-10, Ruidhri Mc Manus, Daniel O'Connor (0-1), James Mc Manus, Rian Mc Namara. Subs: Paddy Harney, Dara Golden.

U16 Ladies
Clann under 16 Ladies played their second round championship match in Johnstown on Sunday against reining champions Strokestown. Despite great fight from the girls all over the pitch Clann went in at half time trailing by 6 points. Half way through the second half Clann drew level but as the game went into the last 10 minutes Strokestown pushed on with a few late scores to close out the game and win by 4 points.
