Clann na nGael Notes

Club Dinner Dance
This year’s postponed Dinner Dance will take place in Athlone Springs Hotel on Friday 9th March. Music by Na Fianna. Supper served at 8pm. Tickets available at €25 from Liam Dunne 083-4166464, Harney’s SPAR, or any committee member. Book early to avoid disappointment as a great night is anticipated.

Club Holiday
It's time to start planning the holidays! This year’s club holiday will be in October. No destination has been chosen as of yet so anyone wishing to travel or with suggestions for the holiday should get their names in early to the committee: Mary Rock, Breda Dolan or Joe Fallon.

Club Lotto
Numbers drawn: 2; 6; 12; 23. No winner of €2,800 jackpot. Next week’s jackpot €3,000 and the draw will be in Shine's Bar, Baylough.

The local branch of IHCPT group 172 would like to thank everyone who donated so generously to their recent church-gate collection. This year we are taking 11 young people with special needs to Lourdes on Easter Sunday for a week. Seven of of these young people are from Athlone town.

Ash Wednesday and Lent

The season of Lent begins this Wednesday 22nd February. It is a special period of preparation for our celebration of Easter. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed during all masses on Wednesday.

Basket Collectors
Volunteers are required to do the basket collection at the 10am mass in Drum each Sunday. Please contact the Drum parish office at 090-6437125 if interested. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Trócaire Lenten Campaign
Envelopes containing Trócaire Fast Boxes are available at the back of the churches from Ash Wednesday. Every home is asked to bring one and support Trócaire in helping people to make a living so that they can escape poverty.

50th International Eucharistic Congress
The parish has been allocated just 15 tickets for the final Mass of the Congress, the Missa Statio Orbis which will be celebrated in Croke Park on Sunday 17th June 2012. Tickets are €13 each but will be paid for by the parish.

Keep Fit Classes in Clonown
Keep fit classes will be held in Clonown Community Centre over the coming weeks. These classes have proven very popular in the past. Depending on the demand these classes will be held on either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. If there is enough demand there will be a separate class for older people. Last year the class for older people proved very successful. Anyone interested in these classes please contact Ronan 086-3029804, Ann 087-2261096 or Rosaleen (for older people) 087-7600128.

Rubbish in the Graveyard
Please note that there is no waste disposal service in the local graveyards and people are asked in future to bring home the material removed from the graves, e.g. old wreaths, pots, clay. Apart from being unsightly it is also disrespectful to the memory of those buried there to have rubbish dumped.
