Clann na nGael Notes

Senior Championship
Clann na nGael 1 – 8 Kilmore 0 – 10
The Clann na nGael Athlone Springs Hotel senior team opened their championship with a win over Kilmore on Sunday last. The large Clann crowd which traveled to Kilmore saw the home team lead by 5 points to 2 mid way through the first half, with the Clann points coming from Donie Shine and Matt Scally.
Kilmore extended their lead before points from Enda Kenny and Donie Shine ensured Clann were within 2 points of the hosts at the break. Clann could have been further behind but for a fine Ronan O'Reilly save
Clann were the better team at the restart and points from Matt Scally, Jonathon Dunning and Cathal Shine put Clann in the lead for the first time. This was a lead which Clann held on to for the rest of the game.
A Jonathon Dunning goal pushed out Clann lead to 4 points. The game seemed over but a Kilmore revival gave Clann a nervy end to the game. A Darragh Lennon point made sure of the win for Clann. This a very good performance from the lad and they now play St Aidans in their next championship game. Best for Clann were Ronan O'Reilly, Denis Gavin, David Kelly, David Flynn, Enda Kenny and Matt Scally.
Team and scorers: Ronan o Reilly, Mark Killian, Brian Goode, Denis Gavin, Darragh Shine, David Flynn, Oliver Harney, David Kelly, Gary Shine, Jonathon Dunning 1-1, Mark Shine, Donie Shine 0-2, Darragh Lennon 0-1, Matt Scally 0-2, Enda Kenny 0-1.
Subs: Niall Mc Manus, Cathal Shine 0-1, Niall Shine.

Cumann na mBunscoil Finals
Congratulations to Cornafulla Girls who won the Schools Final yesterday when they defeated Boyle in Kilbride. Playing with a strong first half wind, they built up a good lead which they never looked like losing.
The Cornafulla lads lost the toss and so faced the wind in the first half and were on the back foot from the start against a strong Ballybay side from which they never recovered from. Ballybay hit them with a flurry of early goals and despite a gallant second half effort they could never get the goals they needed.
Cloonakila boys put up a gallant effort and but lost out by a goal in the end in the Large Schools Final. Leading by 4 points at half-time with the wind they still lead with 3 minutes to go before Roxboro finally wore them down with a point and a goal.
Congratulations to all involved in getting the teams to this stage of the competition.

Clann na nGael Notes

Seniors
Clann na nGael 1-8 Strokestown 1-6
The Clann na nGael Athlone Springs senior team produced a Houdini type escape act over the past week to hold on to our O Rourke cup status. After a famous come back against Castlerea on Wednesday, when the lads were 5 down and came back to win by a point. On Sunday the lads produced another Lazarus comeback from 4 points down to win by 2 points.
Clann led 0-4 to 0-3 at the break, but Strokestown came out firing after the break and were 4 points to the good midway through the second half. But Jonathon Dunning stuck for a goal, and Clann never looked back after that. Best for Clann were Brian Goode, Mark Killian, David Kelly and Gary Shine.
Team: Ronan O'Reilly, Mark Killian, Brian Goode, Denis Gavin, Ollie Harney, David Flynn, Darragh Shine, David Kelly, Gary Shine, Jonathon Dunning, Mark Shine, Donal Shine, Emmet Rock, Matt Scally, Alan Dunne. Sub: David O'Neill.

Under 14 League
The Clann na nGael u-14 teams are progressing nicely at the moment. In the past week the lads have had wins over Roscommon Gaels and St Dominic’s. These wins have propelled us up the league and we have an outside chance of making the play offs.
The second team have reached the semi of the division 4 league as a result of the walk over received from Ballinameen on Friday evening last. It was very disappointing for all the lads who turned up 45 minutes before throw in find out 15 minutes after throw in time that Ballinameen were not traveling. This was no fault of the Clann na nGael minor or the county minor board, and the referee Tommie Gately was there on time. A Call from Ballinameen would have been appreciated. The lads are playing Roscommon Gaels B in Johnstown on Thursday in the League semi Final.

Under 12 League
Clann na nGael 2-6 Padraig Pearses 2-5
Clann won the toss and played with the breeze and had a lot of early possession but found the scores hard to come by. The first score came from the boot of Ciaran Lennon after a good outfield move. Pearses then equalized before Clann went ahead again following a good point by David Griffin. Clann were in command with a lot of possession but were unable to convert it to scores. Pearses again followed up with another point to leave both teams level at two points each at the interval.
The second half continued on the same trend however Clann used their possession better and a goal and a point from David Griffin seemed to put the Clann lads on the right track. Pearses had other ideas and scored a goal to bring them back into the game. Clann hit back with points from Eoin Hannon, Ciaran Lennon and a goal and a point from Jamie McBride to leave the scores at Clann 2-06 Pearses 1-4 and time almost up. Pearses brought themselves back from the dead scoring 1-01 in injury time leaving only one point between the teams. Both teams were hungry for one more score but the ref had the last say blowing the final whistle with Clann holding on to a hard earned single point victory. Clann's defence played very well and midfield worked hard. The forwards came up against strong backs and had to work very hard for the scores but got enough to earn the victory.

U12 Division 1A Championship Semi-Final

Clann na nGael Lions 1-16 Padraig Pearses Lions 1-4

Clann qualified for their 3rd County Final in a row with a good victory over neighbours Padraig Pearses in Woodmount on Friday evening last. Clann suffered a early set back with the loss of centre-back Sarah O'Sullivan through injury and took a while to settle. Indeed they trailed by a point at half-time but turned in a tremendous second half performance scoring 1-11 and only conceding a point. When the defence settled they were excellent, while midfield worked tirelessly throughout and there was some brilliant point scoring from the forwards. They now meet a Boyle side in the final who are also undefeated in the campaign and Clann know they have plenty to do to complete the three-in -a row, but the management team of Peter Shine and Cathriona Meehan will not be resting on their laurels.

Panel: Carol Griffin, Aoife Harte, Leanne Ward, Grainne O'Neill, Renee Naughton, Sarah O'Sullivan, Orla Shine, Christine Conway 0-1, Shauna Connell, Shauna Bannon 0-1, Nicole Meehan 0-2, Therese Lennon 0-4, Caoimhe Lennon 0-5, Claire Murray 1-3, Kirsten McCormack, Sarah Ward, Sarah Connaughton, Damilola Omotosho, Valerie Dyiki, Lauren McDonnell, Lucy Dowling.

Under the watchful eyes of Niamh Fallon and Kelly Killian they will be hoping to make it a memorable day next saturday by having 2 Clann teams in the finals.

Panel: Ethel McManus, Lauren Walker, Ellen Naughton, Emma Rock, Amy Quinn, Megan Farrell, Yvonne Harney, Kelly Whelan, Valerie Dyiki, Damilola Omotosho, Laoise Henry, Aoife Callinhan, Sinead Farrell, Claire Flannery, Orla Hanley, Emma Hughes, Niamh Quinn, Aislinn Carpenter, Aoife Fallon, Katie Costello.

Clann na nGael Notes

Development
Friday week last was a very proud evening for the club when the new floodlights were switched on before the O'Gara cup game between Clann na nGael and St. Brigids. We are now progressing very nicely with the moving forward of the club.

County Success
The Club would like to congratulate the Roscommon senior team on their fine win over Leitrim in the championship on Sunday. Clann were represented by Ronan O'Reilly, Jonathon Dunning, David Flynn and Donal Shine on the panel. Well done lads.

O'Rourke Cup
Clann na nGael 1–9 Western Gaels 1-8
The Clann na nGael senior team had a fine win over Western Gaels recently, which eased our relegation worries, but we need to win our two remaining games to be sure of a place in the O'Rourke Cup next year. Clann were seven points down against Western Gaels and produced a serious comeback to win by a point. Another plus of that game was the performance of Michael Brehony who was the referee on the day and he let the game flow at all times.

O'Gara Cup
Clann na nGael 1–9 Roscommon Gaels 1–11
The Clann na nGael Junior A team played Roscommon Gaels in Johnstown on Friday evening last. This was theie best performance this year and Clann found themselves six points up early in the second half. But the Gaels upped the pace in the final period to end up two point winners
Team: Cathal Hannon, Mark Killian, Eugene Petit, Keith Kildea, Ronan Gavin, Denis Gavin, Darragh Shine, Colin Nicholson, David o Neill, Seanie Walsh, Alan Dunne, Graham Petit, Niall Lennon, Emmet Rock, Enda Kenny.
Sub: David Henry.

Under 14s
Clann na nGael 3–14 Oran 6-14
The Clann na nGael team took on Oran on Thursday last in Johnstown. Clann led by a point at half time, but Oran were the better finishers in the second half and won out in the end.
Team: Shane Scally, Colin Meehan, Gary Mannion, Martin Flannery, Ritchie Mc Manus, Martin Costello, Jason Naughton, Patrick Harney, Jack Connaughton, Fergal Lennon, Cian Mc Manus, David Connaughton, Mark Shine, Ultan Harney, Jamie Fahy.
Subs: Dylan Colgan, Connor Lennon, Evin Cunnuiffe, Arran o Reilly, Shane Lacey.
