Clann na nGael Notes

All-Ireland Under 21 Football Final
All roads lead to Tullamore next Sunday as Roscommon Under 21s take on Dublin in the All Ireland decider in O’Connor Park at 2pm. Best of luck to the two Cathals as they line out for the county. To mark the occasion Roscommon County Board have declared this Friday 4th May as ‘Rossie Day’. Rossies everywhere are encouraged to paint the world Bui agus Gorm by wearing the Primrose and Blue, put up a flag, and donate €2 to the Under 21 training fund. Supporters are also reminded of the upcoming Roscommon draw. Tickets are available from the club officials and everyone is asked to support this venture.

Match tickets are on sale from the Roscommon GAA Office daily between 10am and 4pm and from Smith's SuperValu, Monksland during regular opening hours. Ticket prices are as follows: Stand (unreserved) €20; Terrace €15; Senior Citizens / Students €5 (any area of the Ground); Juveniles Free (any area of the Ground). Please note that Season Tickets are not valid for this fixture.

Minor Ladies Connacht Final
Next Saturday sees Roscommon Minor Ladies take on Sligo in the Connacht final. The best of luck to Kayleigh Dunning and Orla O’Neill who line out for Roscommon.

Foundation Coaching Course
This year we are putting extra emphasis on coaching within the club at all levels, the aim being that all coaches hold at least the Foundation Coaching award. Padraig Naughton has organised a Foundation Coaching Course to be held in Johnstown this week, on Wednesday 2nd May from 8pm to 10.30pm and on Saturday 5th May from 10am to 1pm. Places are limited and on a strictly first come, first served basis so if you are interested please book as soon as possible. On completion of these two sessions you will hold the Foundation Coaching award.

LEADER Grant Information Evening

Are you a micro-enterprise business based in Co. Roscommon? Did you know you could benefit from Rural Development grant supports?

Roscommon LEADER Partnership (RLP) will hold a short information evening to explain how your business can access these supports. RLP have significant funding to allocate and welcome innovative proposals linked to the rural economy. To qualify for LEADER grant aid you must be a micro enterprise with less than 10 full time employees. FREE consultancy support is available to help project promoters complete the LEADER application form.

To hear more, please attend our information evening on Wednesday 2nd May in Drum Community Centre, Athlone, commencing at 7.00pm (sharp) and will be completed within one hour. You can then make a one to one appointment with our LEADER team to discuss your individual circumstances.

Offers a FREE telephone call to people living alone. This is a confidential service that befriends people living in Co. Roscommon through a weekly or daily telephone call. It can help your relatives, neighbours or friends who may be living alone stay safe, secure and active. Drum Bingo called off for Friday 20 April 2012

It is with shock and deep sadness we have learned of the death of our friend and colleague, Tommy Harney. He passed away on Tuesday 17 April 2012. Tommy was a founding member of Drum Community Sports and Social Centre Ltd. He gave tirelessly of himself over the years to the building and running of the centre, and was an active member of the local community.

Remains will be reposing at his residence, Creggane, Cornafulla today Thursday from 4pm to 9pm. Removal on Friday morning to St. Brigid's Church, Drum, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am, followed by burial in the local cemetery.

As a mark of respect, Drum Parish Bingo will not go ahead this Friday night, 20 April 2012 at Drum Community Centre.

Our sincere sympathy to Tommy’s family.

Due to the success of the County U21 team on Saturday last, they will face the Ulster Champions in the All-Ireland Semi Final on Saturday 21st April. As a result, we will not be scheduling any games from Round 4 of the Division 1 or Division 2 Adult Football Leagues for that day in order to give all players and supporters the opportunity to travel to support the team in their bid to reach the All-Ireland U21 Final.

Care to Drive
Volunteer transport programme run by the Irish Cancer Society. We recruit and train volunteers to drive patients to and from their hospital appointments. We are currently looking for people in the Athlone/Ballinasloe/Moate/Shannonbridge areas to drive patients to and from Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. The service is free to both the hospital and the patient with the Irish Cancer Society incurring all costs. Volunteers are paid for all their fuel expenses. We are asking for volunteers to commit to driving 2 days a month (Mon-Fri). For more information call Gail on 01-2310566.
