Clann na nGael Notes

Positions Filled
The club have been able to fill the posts of Senior Team manger and Chairman in the past week. The Club are delighted to have Dessie Dolan on board as senior team manger and Ollie Colgan in the position of Chairman for 2010. The club would like to wish Ollie and Dessie the best of luck in their jobs for the coming year.

Club Social
The Clann na nGael Club will hold their Annual Club Social in the Athlone Springs Hotel on Friday 12th of February 2010. Our very own International Star, Brendan Shine and his band will take stage and entertain us through the evening with music and song while Guest Speaker for the night will be legendary G.A.A. commentator, Micheal O’Muircheartaigh.

The club will also be honouring the Senior teams from 1984-1986 who were County and Connacht Champions for those years. In the Centenary County Final Clann defeated neighbours St Brigids before accounting for St Mary’s of Sligo after a replay in the Connacht Final. It was also after a replay that Clann were defeated by Castleisland Desmonds in the All-Ireland semi-final in the Spring of 1985 and the same opposition and fate awaited the club a year later at the All-Ireland semi-final stage. In the 1985 County Final Clann defeated Roscommon Gaels and Ballina Stephanites in the Connacht Final while in the 1986 Roscommon Final Elphin were the victims before Clann travelled to Cloone and had five points to spare over Sean O’Heslins of Ballinamore. This time they went one stage further when defeating Ferbane comfortably at the semi-final before losing out to St Finbarr’s of Cork in the final by three points in the Spring of ’87. Clann were also Junior Champions in 1984 and this team, who were impressive winners on that occasion over Eire Og, will also be honoured. Those were memorable years for the Clann an nGael club who proceeded to win eight Senior County Titles and six Connacht Titles in succession.

A very enjoyable night is guaranteed, but beware - a big demand for tickets is anticipated.
The event will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost €25 each. Tickets are available from Tom Lennon (Gorry) 086-0673314, Eithne O’Neill 086-3305417, Sean Murray 087-9573759 or any committee member.

Scór na nÓg
On Sunday next the club will be represented by Cian Cunniffe, Melissa Molloney and Evin Cunniffe in the instrumental music category in the Connaught scor final in Baneda Abbey near Tubbercurry . The group bet some fierce competition in the county final and they have done the club proud, and will be a force to be reckoned with on Sunday. Best of Luck to all involved.
