Christmas Message from Fr. Ray

A Word of Gratitude

At this time of year we exchange gifts and presents as a sign of appreciation for one another. It is time to say "thanks". I take this opportunity to thank most sincerely all who contribute to the life of the parish.

Many people in various ways, give of themselves to help meet the needs of our parish. I am truly grateful to the individuals and groups that fulfil any role in the Church and the community:-

Sacristan, Parish Secretary, Caretaker, FÁS supervisor, Leader worker, Altar Society, Choir, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Area Collector/Distributors and School Staff (Teachers, Secretaries and Caretakers), The people who erected the crib, decorated the Church, polished the floors and anyone who hepled in any way to prepare for Christmas.

I applaud all the voluntary groups, sporting and social, responding to the needs of our community. These groups and organisations give of their time and themselves to make this such a wonderful and caring community. Keep up the good work and thanks to all once again.

Welcome Home

I would like to welcome home all parishioners returning from overseas and from other parts of the country to spend the Christmas among us. I am glad to see you all back and hope you have a joyful and peaceful Christmas.

Remember...
  • Remember and pray for the sick of the Parish especially those who cannot be with us today, those at home or in hospital.
  • Remember and pray for the members of our community who have died during the year. We remember also anyone who has lost a loved one.
  • Remember a neighbour or friend who is alone, don;t forget to look in on them... it would mean so much to them.
As you celebrate Christmas may you be touched with the gifts of joy and peace.

Fr. Ray

A Christmas Prayer
By Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father, Help us to remember the birth of Jesus.
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clever hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake.
Amen.

After last years titanic clash there is sure to be a great crowd attending ths match. It is also a great way of working off the previous days turkey. All are welcome to play, wether they are meber or not. The more the merrier. The funds raised from this years game will go the Flood Relief Fund. Many of our members have been affected by the flooding so c'mon everybody and support this very worthy cause. The bar will be open afterwards with refreshment and music being provided. See you all there on the day. Contact Joe Fallon 086-443408 or Gerry Duignan if you are interested in playing.

Happy Christmas
The club would like to wish all our members and friends a very Happy Christmas.

Message from Brian Carroll, Chairman of the Roscommon Supporters Club
Attention now turns to May 2010 and Roscommons trip to London. The supporters club are travelling on the following flights:
  • Saturday 29th May 2010 - Depart: Dublin Airport 1.40pm Ryanair Flight FR216 to London Stansted arriving at 2.55pm
  • Monday 31st May 2010 - Depart: London Stansted 3.45pm Ryanair Flight FR225 to Dublin Airport arriving at 5pm
At the moment the total cost of this flight including taxes and credit card charges is €65. We would ask anyone wishing to travel with us to log onto ryanair.com as soon as possible and book their own individual flights as the price of the flights will increase with interest shown in them.

It is hoped (depending on numbers) to have a bus transfer us from London Stansted to our recommended hotel, The Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood. This bus would also take us back to the airport on Monday and also take us to the game on Sunday in Ruislip.

We have agreed a deal with the Crown Hotel in Cricklewood for rates for rooms. A double/twin room will cost £95 per room per night when book by ringing the hotel and quoting our reservation number. If you do not quote the reservation number or book on line the room will cost you £120. A triple room is also available at £105 per room per night.

We have a limited number of rooms reserved for the supporters club so it is advised to book as soon as possible. Anyone who wishes to get the reservation number is asked to contact myself on 087-2420896 as soon as possible. Exact prices of bus transfers will be known soon and will include a reduction for members of the supporters club. And remember, membership of the Roscommon GAA supporters club costs just €20.
