Clann na nGael Notes

Junior A Championship
Clann na nGael 0-16 Castlerea 0-11
The Clann na nGael Junior A team, sponsored by Kathleen Brennan Home Bakery, recorded their first win of the championship at a damp Johnstown on Saturday evening last. Clann's opponents were in the hunt right up to final throngs of the game, but a blistering final 5 minutes pushed the home side over the line. Clann were best served by Ollie Harney, John Harney, Emmet Kenny and Darragh Petit.
Team: Cathal Hannon, Derek Egan, Daniel Harney, Ollie Harney, Eddie McLoughlin, John Harney, Niall Shine, David O'Neill, Liam Óg Naughten, Andy Carbery, Darragh Lennon, Darragh Petit, Niall Lennon, David Kelly, Emmet Kenny. Subs: Stephen Flynn, Darragh Egan.

Under 14 Championship
Clann na nGael U-14s ended their Championship campaign in disappointing fashion last Sunday, losing out in the County Final to a very strong St. Ciaran's team. Ballyforan was the location for what turned out to be an exciting game, despite the challenging conditions. St. Ciaran's started the game the stronger, and put the Clann team under tremendous pressure all over the field. An early goal for St. Ciaran's made the task at hand even more difficult, as Clann faced into the second half five points down, after having played with a strong breeze. To their great credit, Clann na nGael battled impressively in the second half, showing spirit that has been a characteristic of their play throughout the year. However, St. Ciaran's ability to deal with the conditions meant they were able to tap on some impressive scores to put the game beyond Clann's reach, and ran out deserving winners in the end. The Clann lads can be very proud of their performances throughout the year, in particular a fantastic victory in the semi-final against St. Dominic's last Tuesday evening. Clann will now look to the semi-final of the league in which they hope to make up for last Sunday's defeat.
Team: Brandon Ryan; Damien Duff, Gary Nicholson, Luke Dolan; Niall Connaughton, Seán McManus, Kieran Connaughton; Eoin Hannon, Cathal Shields; David Griffin, David McManus, Darragh Lennon; Ian Naughton, Ciarán Lennon, Seán McManus. Subs: Seán Fallon, Eoin O'Neill, Brian Hannon, David Ward, Patrick O'Brien, Peter Foley, David Finneran, Eoin Cunningham, Cian Mulvey, Lorcan Glynn, Colm Johnson, Darragh Kildea, Mark Maloney, Ronan McAlery. Kevin Kelly.

Clann na nGael Notes

O'Rourke Cup
Clann na nGael 3-6 Boyle 0-8
The Clann na nGael Athlone Springs Hotel senior team returned to winning ways with a win over Boyle on Tuesday evening last, in Johnstown. Clann were in sizzling form from the start as Ronan Gavin rattled the back of the net, before the Scoreboard had a chance to warm up. Clann continued their onslaught and goals from Enda Kenny and Seanie Walsh set Clann up for a comfortable half time lead. The second half was a scrappy affair, but the lads held their nerve to record a deserved win. The win moves Clann up into a mid table position and in with a chance of making the league play-offs.
Team: Colin Nicholson, Derek Egan, Brian Goode, Ray Fallon, Niall McManus, Darragh Shine, Cathal Duignan, Gary Shine, Graham Petit, Seanie Walsh, Darragh Lennon, Enda Kenny, Ronan Gavin, Matt Scally, Darragh Petit. Subs: Stevie Flynn, Emmet Kenny, Darragh Egan, Alan Dunne, Emmet Rock.

Clann na nGael 2-12 St. Brigid's 3-3
The Clann na nGael under 16 team took on our near rivals St. Brigid's in Johnstown on Friday evening last in their second outing in the championship. St. Brigid's were first to work the scoreboard with a point, but points from Rian McNamara and Ultan Harney put Clann in a lead that they would never lose. Clann continued to play some fine football and led by 2-8 to 2-2 at the break. Clann once again dominated the second half and despite some late pressure from St. Brigid's, Clann ran out winners in the end.
Team and scorers: Shane Scally, Arran O'Reilly, Paddy Harney, Martin Costello, Jack Connaughton, Shane Pettit, Martin Flannery 0-1, Arran Shine, Ultan Harney 0-2, David Connaughton, Malcom O'Hanlon, Shane Lacey 1-2, Cathal Callinan 0-1, Killian Bannon, Rian McNamara 1-6. Subs: Cian McManus, Jamie Fahy, Fergal Lennon.

Under 12 League
Training continues every Wednesday evening at 7.00pm sharp in Johnstown for all U-12s. The Roscommon U-12 Early Summer League has just recently finished. Clann fielded 3 teams in the league, in Divisions 1, 3 and 5 respectively. The idea behind fielding 3 teams was to get as much football as possible for all the players involved and to try to improve all the basic skills. This proved successful as all the players have shown a great improvement. Clann finished joint second in Division 1 on 10 points after 7 games. In Division 3, Clann finished third in the group on 8 points after 6 games and in Division 5, Clann finished second in the group on 10 points after 7 games.
