Monthly meeting takes place in Drum Community Centre on Tuesday 2nd March at 8.30pm. All members please attend.

Drum & Clonown Community Games
We urge parents to encourage their children to get involved in our local games. Some important dates for your diary:
- Tuesday 2nd March: Basketball - u13 & u16 girls. Venue: Drum Parish Hall at 7.30 pm to get together to form teams and organise training. We are grateful to the three people who have volunteered to coach the teams.
- Thursday 4th March: Table Tennis - boys and girls, under 13 and under 16. Venue: Clann na nGael Club house. Everyone interested please come along.
- Sunday 7th March: Table Quiz for boys and girls under 14. Venue: Drum Parish Hall at 6pm sharp.
Congratulations to our own Joanne Colgan (nee Bruce) who has won the Roscommon Sports Partnership Award for her tremendous contribution, dedication, commitment to Community Games Athletics. Well done Joanne.

Cornafulla N.S. Enrolment
Enrolment for Monsignor McCarthy Memorial National School, Cornafulla takes place in the school on Thursday next, 25th February from 6pm to 8pm for the school year commencing September 2010.

Drum Cemetery Voluntary Group
Seeking volunteers to work in the cemetery for the coming Saturdays from 11am to 3pm. All volunteers welcome. Thanks also to all who supported the voluntary contribution. Envelopes can be returned to Drum Church.

Congratulations
To all our parishioners who won prizes in the church maintenance fund monster draw, which took place last Friday in Ráth Cairn, Co. Meath. A total of 159 prizes, including the top two, came to this parish. A full list of the winners is available at the back of the church or on the Drum community website at www.drum.ie. The two local draws, with prizes totalling €6,000, will be held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Friday 5th March at 8.30pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

Elphin Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage Invalid Fund
Fund-raising will take place in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Monday 1st March at 9pm.

Variety Show
Comedy, Song & Dance in Moore Hall on 5th, 6th, 7th March at 8.30pm. Proceeds in aid St. Hilda’s School and Moore Community Funds. Please Support.

Fairtrade Fortnight
From Monday 22nd February to Friday 5th March. Please consider swapping your cuppa for a fair-trade cuppa and help give a better deal for developing countries. Look out for the fair-trade display in Golden Island Shopping Centre.

Athlone Little Theatre
Presents the hilarious comedy "I Do Not Like Thee Dr. Fell" from Sunday 28th February to Friday 5th March.

Cake Sale & Raffle
In aid of Clonown Church Restoration Fund will be held in Clonown Community Centre on St. Patrick's Day, 17th March after 11am Mass. Please support.

Trócaire Lenten Campaign
Envelopes containing Trócaire Fast Boxes are available at the back of the churches. Every home is asked to bring one and support this worthy cause.

Second Collection
Ss. Peter & Paul's Parish Finance Committee wish to thank all their parishioners for their generous contributions and support for the fundraising efforts for the renovation and painting of the church. In order to meet their future financial needs, the Parish Finance Committee has decided to introduce a second collection, commencing next weekend. It will be taken up after Holy Communion at each Vigil & Sunday mass. We live in difficult and challenging financial times for everyone, so it is important to point out that if anyone cannot afford to contribute to this collection for any reason, please do not feel burdened to contribute beyond your means. Thank you for your support - it is very much appreciated.

Clann na nGael Notes

Club Social
The Annual Club social was held recently in the Athlone Springs Hotel.. The crowd of over 300 people were welcomed by Ollie Colgan before tucking into the fine meal on offer. The Junior B team were presented with their county and Mid South medals. This was followed by honouring the 1984 Junior team along with the Senior teams of 1984, 1985 and 1986. The crowd was then entertained by informative speech by Micheal O’Muircheartaigh. Awards presented on the night were:
  • Young Ladies Player of the Year: Rosa Shine
  • Young Player of the Year: Cathal Duignan
  • Club Person of the Year: PJ Brien
  • Ladies Player of the year: Niamh Fallon
  • Player of the Year: Joe Fallon
  • Ray Fallon and Stevie Collins were also honoured for their work done for the club over a long period of time.
It was then time for the play starring Mike Keena, Emmet Durney, Joey Connaughton, Sarah Seery, Niall Mc Manus and Joseph Fallon. The director of “From Little Acorns” was Liam Dunne. Brendan Shine kept the large crowd entertained until the early hours when everyone went home through the frosty night. The club would like to thank anyone who helped out on the evening, and to the staff of The Athlone Springs for the excellent service on the night

Tansey Cup
Clann na nGael 0-9 Fuerty 0-9
The Clann na nGael Junior A team got their first point in the Tansey Cup when they drew with Fuerty in Fuerty on Sunday last. Clann led at the break but they just couldn’t break away from their hosts, and the game ended in a draw.

Drum Cemetery Voluntary Group
You may have noticed the tremendous work that has been carried out by our renewly formed Voluntary Group in our local graveyard. There has been a notable improvement already. Well done to all concerned and keep up the great work. Thanks also to our two Leader workers for their continued hard work at Drum Cemetery. Over the coming weeks, they will be asking for your help by way of a voluntary contribution to cover the costs involved and to help us continue with this worthwhile project. Envelopes will be distributed to all houses in the parish and we would ask you for your support. Envelopes also available at back of Church or contact the Drum Parish Office at 090-6437125.

Sincere Thanks
Ss. Peter & Paul's Parish Finance Committee would like to sincerely thank all who bought tickets for the church maintenance fund monster draw, which will take place in Ráth Cairn, Co. Meath on Friday next, 26th February at 3pm. Thanks to all who sold tickets and who helped in any way to make this particular fund-raising effort such a success. The final meeting of ticket sellers will be held in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 24th February at 8.30pm. All outstanding tickets, including unsold tickets, must be returned to this meeting.

The season of Lent begins this Wednesday 17th February 2010. It is a special period of preparation for our celebration of Easter. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed during all masses on Wednesday.

Organised to raise money for Ss. Peter & Paul's Church Maintenance Fund. Have you ever considered sponsorship to help you lose weight and raise vital funds for a very worthwhile cause? Open to anyone, so encourage your friends and family to join and help raise funds. The challenge begins with a weigh-in on Monday 15th February at Sheraton Hotel at 7pm. Weigh-in will be done in confidence and you will receive a free six week pass to the fitness centre at the Sheraton Hotel. Great prizes for the winners also. Night Prayer Vigil
At Cluain Chiarain Prayer Centre, Clonmacnoise on Friday 19th February, commencing with Mass at 10pm followed by adoration, finishing at 3.10am. All welcome. Enquiries to Dave 085-7746763.

Athlone Meals on Wheels
Annual church-gate collection takes place at all churches on Saturday 20th and Sunday 25th February. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Volunteer drivers also required for the delivery of meals. If you can spare one hour per week, please contact 090-6494393 before 12pm Monday to Friday.

Clann na nGael Club Notes

Annual Club Social
The Clann na nGael Social will take place in the Athlone Springs on Friday night. There will be an all-star line up on the night with Brendan Shine providing the entertainment and Micheal O’Muircheartaigh is the special guest. That’s not all, the play "From Little Acorns" will take to the stage. At the moment the tickets are moving briskly and with a limited amount of tickets it is important to get your hands on the hottest ticket in the country on that night. Those interested in attending this sure to be great night can contact Sean Murray, Tom Lennon or Eithne O'Neill ASAP.

Membership
Members are reminded that membership is now due for the coming year. Players are reminded that if you don’t pay you cant play, and with the leagues commencing shortly it is important to be a member Contact Dermot Kelly for details.

Under 14 Training
The Clann U-14 team will commence training on Monday night next at 7 pm in Johnstown. For details you can contact Joe Fallon 086-8443408. New players welcome.

Lotto Results
Last weeks numbers were 2, 6, 14, 15 and there was no winner of the jackpot. Hall has been newly renovated to the highest standard. The main hall and two meeting rooms are available for rent and use. There's plenty of parking and the building is fully accessible. Presentation on the history, restoration and contemporary evolution of the Permanent Deaconate will be given by Justin Harkin in Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Thursday, 11th February from 8-10pm. Likely to interest people who are active in parish life. €5 donation appreciated.

'SHINE'
Supporting people affected by mental ill-health along with the Candlelight group offer WRAP training in the Family Resource Centre in Connaught Street, starting on Thursday 11th February at 7pm. Contact Catherine at 086-8525281 for details.

Clann na nGael Club Social & Buffet Dinner

Table Quiz
General knowledge table quiz for Habitat for Humanity will take place on Friday, 12th February in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel at 9pm. Teams of 4: €20. Raffle and spot prizes on the night. Michelle Keane from Bealnamulla is travelling to Bangladesh as part of the Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz. This quiz is part of her fundraising campaign and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Provide advice, support and information for families who are affected by drugs or alcohol in Monksland Community Centre Mondays 10am-12pm.

Samaritans Information Day
For new volunteers on Sunday 7th February at 3pm at 3 Court Devenish (opposite Athlone Credit Union office). All welcome.

Adult Education
Evening Classes at Athlone Community College. Enrolment takes place on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th February from 7.30-9pm.

Relic of St. Peregrene

Computer Training for Older People

  • Transition Year students in St. Joseph's College, Summerhill are offering free, one to one computer training for those aged 55 years and over.
  • Learn how to book flights, surf the internet or send an e-mail to a friend!
  • These user-friendly classes will take place on seven Monday mornings from 10am to 12 noon starting from 1st March 2010.

Hastings Cup
The club would like to congratulate Cathal Shine, Donal Shine and Darragh Lennon who played their part in Roscommon’s under 21 Hastings Cup success at the weekend. Well done lads.

Scór na nÓg
Clann were recently represented at the Scór Connaught final in Baneda, Co. Sligo. Cian Cunniffe, Melissa Molloney and Evin Cunniffe took to the stage in the instrumental music competition. The group played their hearts out but were unsuccessful on the day. The group has gained many fans in the past few months with their fine performances.
