Lá Fhéile Bhríde - Feast of Saint Brigid
Wednesday 1st February is the feast of Saint Brigid, which marks the beginning of spring. St. Brigid has always had a special connection with both Drum and Clonown. In the past people made St Brigid’s crosses from rushes and hung them in the outhouses in order to protect the animals from illness.

Cake Sale in Clonown
There will be a cake sale and tea and coffee morning in Clonown Community Centre this Sunday 29th January after 11am Mass. There will also be a disco for children. This cake sale is being held to raise funds for the I.H.C.P.T., an organisation that brings children with special needs to Lourdes. A group of cyclists will cycle from the north of France, doing 100 miles per day over seven days, to Lourdes in the South of France. Each cyclist has to raise €2,500 for each child brought. James Costello from Clonown will be taking part in the cycle. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Keep Fit Classes in Clonown
Keep fit classes will be held in Clonown Community Centre over the coming weeks. These classes have proven very popular in the past. Depending on the demand these classes will be held on either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. If there is enough demand there will be a separate class for older people. Last year the class for older people proved very successful. Anyone interested in these classes please contact Ronan 086-3029804, Ann 087-2261096 or Rosaleen (for older people) 087-7600128.

Rubbish in the Graveyard
Please note that there is no waste disposal service in the local graveyards and people are asked in future to bring home the material removed from the graves, e.g. old wreaths, pots, clay. Apart from being unsightly it is also disrespectful to the memory of those buried there to have rubbish dumped.
