Thursday 15th August is a holy day of obligation. Mass times:
-Drum: Vigil (Wednesday) 8pm, Thursday 10am.
-Clonown: Thursday 11am.
-Ss Peter & Paul's Church: Vigil (Wednesday) 6.30pm, Thursday 9.30am, 12pm, 6.30pm.

Clonown Gathering and Cemetery Sunday
The Clonown Gathering takes place on Sunday 11th August. There will be Mass in the cemetery at 3pm. There will be no 11am Mass in Clonown on that day. Afterwards, there will be a display of photographs and records relating to Clonown and neighbouring townlands in the community centre. The display includes school records, Tithe Allotment Records, Griffith's Valuation etc. They have just completed a survey of the new graveyard (opened 1917) and have retrieved burial records relating to the old graveyard dating back to 1789, from the parish register and hope to display this information. There will also be light refreshments. A special welcome is extended to people with Clonown connections to attend. Further details on www.clonown.com.

McManus Gathering to Drum
A full weekend of activities is planned for the McManus Gathering on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August in Drum, south Roscommon. Further details available on www.drumheritage.com and The Gathering website.

Cemetery Sunday
Clonown: Sunday 11th August at 3pm.
Cornamagh: Sunday 11th August at 4pm.
Coosan Cemetery: Sunday 18th August at 4pm.

Knock Novena
National Public Novena in honour of Our Lady of Knock takes place from 14th-22nd August. Twice daily at 3pm and 8.30pm. (2.30pm on Thursday 15th and Sunday 18th). Full details and live webstream available on www.knock-shrine.ie/novena2013

Further Education Centre
Open Day in the Further Education Centre, Clonown Road, Athlone on Thursday 29th August from 10am-3pm. Call in and see what courses are on offer and find the one that suits you best.

Marathons4Muireann
Local man Declan O’Flaherty is continuing his preparations for his charity run from Athlone to Dublin over the October bank holiday weekend. He will also compete in the Dublin city marathon on the same weekend. Declan is undertaking this monumental task to benefit three worthy charities: the Brothers of Charity; the Jack and Jill Foundation; and Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Declan and his wife Gina are working to raise the much needed funds under the charitable name “Marathons 4 Muireann”. Further details can be found on www.marathons4muireann.com. As part of the build-up to the main event, a local 6K/11k run/walk/crawl event has been organised for Drum on Saturday 31st August. Each participant will be asked to make a contribution of €10. It is an ideal opportunity for the community to meet up, get a bit of exercise and contribute to this worthy cause. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in Drum Hall. Stewards will be on hand on the day to provide a safe environment for the participants. Declan will be running the entire parish on the day comprising of a 50K run and there will be volunteers involved in a bucket collection along the route.

Monksland Summer Sports Camp
19th-23rd August from 10am-1pm daily at Cushla Pitches, in conjunction with Adrian Carberry from FAI. Cost €15. Registration night on Monday 13th August from 7pm in Monksland Community Centre. Contact Roscommon Sports Partnership at 090-6630853 for more details.

The Priests in concert
Gala concert in Ss. Peter & Paul's Church, Athlone on Friday 20th September with guest artist, Athlone soprano Bread O'Connor. Tickets €25 are now available at the Parish Office 090-6492171 or 086-0525661 or the Sacristy 090-6494150 or any member of the committee. Proceeds in aid of the Church Restoration Fund.
