Clann na nGael Notes

Junior A Championship
Clann na nGael 1-8 Roscommon Gaels 1-5
The Clann na nGael Kathleen Brennan Home Bakery junior A team got their championship campaign on the road with a hard fought win over Roscommon Gaels, in a well appointed Knockcroghery on Sunday last.
Clann were first to strike with a Colin Nicholson point, but it wasn’t long before the Gaels opened their account with a point. A Ronan Gavin point put Clanns noses in front with another point , this was a wake up call for the Gaels and they hit 1-2 in a 10 minute period to go 4 points to the good with half time approaching. Alan Dunne brought Clann to within a goal of Roscommon Gaels with a point before the break.
It took Clann a while to settle after the break, but 3 points from Alan Dunne and a Graham Petit point put Clann ahead mid way through the second half. A Gaels point leveled matters again, but Clann were in no mood the Share the spoils and Graham Petit put them in the lead before Emmet Rock fisted the ball to the back of the nGael net to leave Clann 4 up with time nearly up. Gaels hit back with a point, but Clann held on for a deserved win.
This was a good performance from the lads and they know a win over Strokestown on Friday evening will put them through to the knock stages.

Roscommon Ladies Intermediate Championship
Clann na nGael 3-14 Four Roads 3-6
Clann Ladies produced a brilliant first half performance to defeat last year's Connacht Junior finalist in Johnstown last weekend. A heavy shower just before the game left underfoot conditions heavy, but Clann were quick out of the blocks with two points from Aisling Egan before a Niamh O'Brien goal gave Clann the start required. But Four Roads hit back with goal to leave the scores 1-2 to 1-1. Frees from Blana Gately and Gina Dowling stretched Clann's lead before Gina superbly lobbed the Four Roads goalkeeper for a goal after winning a kickout. Further points from Niamh O'Brien and Gina Dowling left Clann leading by 11 points before Four Roads were given a lifeline with a second goal before the break and could have got more only for some smart saves from Eileen Goode in goal. The second half saw Four Roads take the match to Clann and but for great defending from Rosa Shine, Kelly Killian, Cathy Watson and the defence as a whole they couldn't get the goal required until late in the match. But by then Gina Dowling had scored her second goal along with points from Niamh O'Brien and Michelle Harney-Nolan to secure victory. There were good performances all over the field with the likes of Niamh Fallon, Maeve Harney and Mary Duffy-Shine covering miles to secure possession for the forwards. Clann have two more matches in the Group against Oran (next weekend) and Eire Og and require one more win to secure a semi-final berth.
Team: Eileen Goode, Amy Shine, Rosa Shine, Mary Shine, Aisling Curley, Cathy Watson, Kelly Killian, Joanne Naughton, Maeve Harney, Michelle-Harney Nolan 0-1, Niamh Fallon, Blana Gately 0-2, Gina Dowling 2-4, Aisling Egan 0-2, Niamh O'Brien 1-5.
Subs: Kathy Doran-Rourke, Clodagh Rock, Deirdre O'Neill, Caroline O'Neill, Aine Seery, Amy O'Reilly, Aoife McManus, Katie Ward, Michelle Dunning, Edel Moore.
