Clann na nGael Notes

Drive for Five complete!
The weekend just gone has proved to be one of the most successful weekends in the club's history, with Clann na nGael successful in winning the Under 16 Division 3 League, Under 12 League, Intermediate Shield, Girls Under 14 Championship, and The Junior A Championship. Credit must go all those involved with the five teams at the weekend. Reports will appear next week. Well done to all.

Gaelic for Fun
Demo fitness and light training session followed by coffee and refreshments in Johnstown on Wednesday 5th October at 8.30pm. Please come along and bring friends if interested in this fun and exciting way to meet others and get fit. To find out more contact Leslie on 087-7740123.

Reflection Area
Cemetery Mass and Blessing of Reflection Area
Drum Cemetery Voluntary Group would like to invite everyone to the official blessing of the New Reflection Area in Drum Cemetery on Saturday 8th October. Commencing with Mass at 2pm celebrated by Fr. Ray Milton, followed by the presentation of a new online database record of the graves in the middle graveyard. Refreshments afterwards in Drum Parish Hall.

Farewell Function
Due to the death of Canon Paddy Murray, the farewell function for Fr. Ray Milton due to be held on Fruday 30th September was cancelled. Members of the organising committee presented Fr. Ray with the proceeds of the collection and a specially commissioned bog-oak piece featuring a St. Brigid's Cross with an inscription "To Fr. Ray from the People of Drum:  July 1997 - August 2011." Fr. Ray is very grateful to the people of Drum for the generosity and good wishes, and said he has very fond memories of his time in Drum. Fr. Ray will be back in Drum this Saturday 7th October to bless the new reflection area at Drum Cemetery.

Hip Hop Dance Classes
Roscommon Sports Partnership are starting Hip Hop dance classes for boys and girls in Monksland Community Centre. Wednesday evenings 6-7pm (age 6-10) or 7-8pm (age 10-13). Cost €2. All welcome.

Irish Céilí, Sean Nós and Set Dancing
Classes on Monday evenings in Athlone G.A.A. Club, Páirc Chiaráin, Ballymahon Road from 8.30-10.30pm. All welcome.

Post Leaving Course

Canon Paddy Murray R.I.P.

The death has occurred of Very Rev. Canon Paddy Murray, Retired Parish Priest of St. Peter & Paul's (Athlone, Drum and Clonown) and formerly of Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon. Predeceased by his brothers Jimmy, Michael, Tony, Phelim, Emmet and Malachy. Deeply regretted by his sisters Maura (Dublin), Sue Casey (Castlebar), brother Oliver (Roscrea), sisters-in-law Kitty, Joan, and Maura, brother-in-law Gerry, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, the Bishop and Priests of the dioceses of Elphin, parishioners and friends. Reposing in St. Peter & Paul's Church, Athlone, on Friday evening (30th September) from 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock. Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday 1st October at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in the church grounds.

The farewell function for Fr. Ray Milton, due to be held on Friday 30 September in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, has been postponed.

Drum Bingo will not go ahead this Friday night, 30 September at Drum Community Centre.

Clann na nGael Notes

Under 16 County Final
Clann na nGael 0-7 Boyle 0-6
The Clann na nGael under 16 lads won the county final on Saturday evening last in a well laid out Strokestown. The conditions were a dominating feature of the game and both sides were level at half time with 2 points apiece. Clann's points came from Shane Lacey and and David Connaughton. Clann came out with a different attitude in the second half and took the lead early on with a point from Ultan Harney and they never looked back. Further points from Shane Dunning, Martin Flannery, Ultan Harney and Shane Lacey sealed the victory for the Clann boys. Clann were well served by Shane Scally, Arran O'Reilly, Martin Flannery, Arran Shine and Ultan Harney.

Club Lotto Results
Last week's numbers were 3, 18, 20, 24 and there was no winner of the jackpot. There were 5 'match 3' winners each receiving €40 . Next weeks jackpot will be €5,400 and the draw is in Shines.

Roscommon GAA Members Draw
Round two of the draw took place on Sunday at half-time in the St. Brigids v Western Gaels Senior Football Championship Semi-Final and the prize winners were as follows: 1st Marian Rice and Maura Reddington (Seller - Fuerty); 2nd John Callaghan (Seller - Ballinameen); 3rd Ciaran Guihan (Seller - St. Ronan's); 4th Tommy Beirne (Seller - Kilglass Gaels). Once again the Board would like to thank everyone who supported the draw. The final draw will take place in October.

New Translation of the Roman Missal
From this weekend, the new English translation of responses and prayers said by the congregation will be used. The order and structure of the Mass has not changed, nor are the readings. Over time, we will become familiar with the prayers which have very slightly changed. Full details are available online at www.catholicbishops.ie.
