U-16 Championship Final
Clann na nGael 1-04 Padraig Pearses 1-09
Clann U-16's lost the County Final to Pearses on Sunday in Hyde Park . Pearses started strongly and soon had 3 points on the scoreboard before Clann's first score from an Emmett Kenny free. Pearses increased their lead with another 2 points before Emmett Kenny got another great free. But then on 20 minutes Pearses struck for a goal and Clann looked in trouble but a massive long range from Daniel Qualter gave them hope at half-time as Pearses lead 1-5 to 0-3. And in the second Clann eventually got the upper hand in midfield and started to reduce the Pearses lead. A Daniel Qualter point from play followed by a goal from Cian Duffy left the scores at 1-7 to 1-4 for over 10 minutes but Clann missed a lot scoring opportunities and Pearses weathered the storm with some resolute defending and proceeded to score 2 points in the last couple minutes to leave 5 points between the teams. Great credit goes to the management team of PJ Glynn, Gerry O'Connor, Liam Connaughton and Fergal Shine for all their hard work and for all the players who kept fighting to the end and never gave up.
Team: Stephen Shine, Keelan O'Neill, Darragh Egan, Cian O'Reilly, David Harrington, Michael McManus, Gearoid Lennon, John Harney, Daniel Qualter (0-2), Emmett Kenny (0-2), Dermot Higgins, Cian Duffy (1-0), Philip Lennon, Darragh Glynn, Dan O'Connor. The senior team travelled to Croghan on Saturday evening and came away with a good win against Shannon Gaels. Clann opened the scoring with a free from Enda Kenny and further points from Emmett Rock, Matt Scally and Niall Shine left them leading at half-time 0-6 to 0-3. A good point from play from Enda Kenny early the 2nd half was followed by 3 good frees from the same player in the 2nd half. The midfield of Niall McManus and Gary Shine decided to get the act and contributed 3 between the pair. Although Clann never looked like losing this game Shannon Gaels never stopped taking the game to Clann and made it an uneasy final 10 minutes with some fine scores. Mid South Division 4 League
Clann na nGael 0-10 Padraig Pearses 0-12
An under strength Clann Junior B team lost narrowly to Pearses on Friday evening in Woodmount. Uncertainty about the timing of the game left Clann waiting around for nearly 40 minutes before the match started and they went in at half-time trailing by 0-7 to 0-4. A great comeback in the second-half tied up the scores and Clann had their chances to win the game but ultimately Pearses prevailed.
