Clann na nGael Notes

G.A.A 125 CELEBRATION
To mark the 125th anniversary of the GAA, we are setting up a museum in the clubhouse. The museum will hold a collection of items of interest and memorabilia from over the 73 years of Clann's history; cups and trophies won by the club, footballs from important matches, old jerseys, photos, old videos, match programmes, ticket stubs, match reports, and other items of interest We are dependent on the goodwill of the community in putting the museum together. If you have any item that you would like to donate or loan to the museum, please bring them to the clubhouse any Monday evening between 7:00PM and 8:00PM.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
Work on the new floodlights are set to commence on Friday. So there will be a gentle glow around Johnstown in the near future.

O ROURKE CUP
Clann na nGael 0 – 7 St Brigids 1 – 11
The Clann na nGael Athlone Springs senior team took on neighbours St Brigids on Saturday evening last in Kiltoom. Clann started brightly and Dara Lennon opened Clanns account after 3 minutes. However Brigids took control and led b 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. The second half was an even 30 minutes with Clann giving as good as they got. But Brigids finished the stronger and won by 7 points,

O GARA CUP
Clann na nGael 1 – 7 St Dominic’s 1 – 10
The Clann na nGael junior A team played St Dominic’s in the O Gara Cup on Sunday last. Both sides were evenly matched and they were level at break with 4 points apiece. Dominic’s started the better of the 2 sides at the restart but Clann would not let them get too far ahead. Disaster struck with 10 minutes to go when Dominic’s scored a controversial goal . Clann came back again with a Fergal Shine goal, but the visitors held on for a 3 point win.

U 16 COUNTY SEMI FINAL
Clann na nGael 3 – 9 St Dominic’s 2 – 5
The Clann na nGael U 16 team did what the Junior A team failed to do , by beating St Dominic’s in the county semi final on Sunday last in Kiltoom. Clann were first to settle with a Emmet Kenny goal and a point from James Farrell. Dominic’s hit back with a goal of their own but Clann were no to be fazed and 3 Emmet Kenny points and a Dan o Conner point but Clann 1-5 to 1-0 up at the break.
Dominic’s were first to register a point in the second half, but Emmet Kenny hit back with 2 more points for Clann. Dominic’s came back again with 2 points and Emmet Kenny reply with a point to put Clann 1-8 to 1-3 up midway through the second half. Dominic’s did not want to get beaten and they scored 1-1 to reduce the arrears to the bare minimum between the sides. This seemed to stir Clann into action and Emmet Kenny rattled the back of the net to restore Clanns 4 point advantage. Dominic’s got within 3 points of our lads before a John Finnerty goal and a Rudhrai Mc Manus point sealed victory for Clann. The Clann lads deserve great praise for this performance in a game played in very wet conditions.

U 14 DIVISION 1
The Clann na nGael took the long journey to Strokestown on Thursday evening last. The game was played in very damp conditions for the duration of the hour. Clann played some fine football, but the home team took the points.

Subs: Fergal Lennon, Mark Shine, Jack Connaughton, Aaron Shine, David Kildea, Jason Naughton.

U 14 DIVISION 4
Clann na nGael 3 – 3 Roscommon Gaels 4 – 3
The Clann na nGael u 14 team played Roscommon Gaels on Friday evening last in Johnstown. Clann started well and 2 goals from David Kildea sent Clann 4 points up at the break. Roscommon Gaels came out of the blocks all guns firing and hit 3-1 without reply to rattle Clann, The lads never gave up and a Arrant Shine goal gave Clann a glimmer of hope. Clann laid siege on the Gaels goal, but the visitors some managed to keep the ball out and ended up 3 points winners. This was a very good team performance and best for Clann were Dylan Colgan, Colin Meehan, Aaron Shine, Jamie Fahy, Dylan Earle and David Kildea.
