Lá na gClub

GAA clubs across the world will mark the GAA's 125th Anniversary on Sunday 10th May 2009.

Lá na gClub is nearly upon us, and a small group of Clann members are very busy at the moment putting everything in place for the big day. You can play your part by attending this historic day, and enjoying the many activities taking place around the club. May 10 will be the official date for the opening of our New Pitch and our Clann na nGael Museum within the Clubhouse in Johnstown.

Our day will start with Mass at 11.30am in the Clubhouse followed by a parade with the Athlone Monksland Marching Band and all our underage teams marching around our main pitch to the opening or the New Pitch. We will be opening our New Pitch with a blessing after Mass and this will be followed by releasing 125 balloons off the Main Pitch to mark the 125th G.A.A. Celebration.

At approximately 3.30pm we will have a Match on our main pitch involving players past and present in a fun game for all the family to enjoy. If you have any friends or family who would like to play or attend in Johnstown bring them along. Everyone is welcome.

We are still collecting items that might be of interest in the Museum and if you have anything old photos, Medals, Jerseys, Newspaper articles we would love to copy these items and return to owners. If you have anything of interest please bring to Clubhouse on Monday evenings between 7:00pm and 8:00pm. So when you are asked in a few years time "Where were you on May 10 2009 ?" You will answer " I had a great day in Johnstown, the home of Clann na nGael"
