Clann na nGael Notes

Roscommon Ladies Rose Competition
The Roscommon Ladies Rose Ball will take place on Friday, the 20th of March at 8:30 pm in the Abbey Hotel. It promises to be an exciting event with Roses from all over the county, representing their local GAA club, competing to be crowned the Roscommon Ladies Football Rose of 2009. Aine Seery from Clonellan will be representing Clann na nGael Ladies Club. There will be 18 Ladies Clubs around the County represented by Roses and competition will be stiff on the night with plenty of local rivallry being renewed. Hopefully she will bring back the first of many titles to the club. The lucky winner will then go on to represent the Roscommon Ladies County Board in the Annual Rose of Roscommon Event which takes place later in the year.
At this stage in the year those people associated with Ladies football in Co. Roscommon are getting well acquainted with standing on cold wet and mucky pitches. Wonderful supporters stick by their local teams through thick and thin in sunshine and rain. This week your club will be looking for your support again, although in the much more comfortable surroundings of the Abbey Hotel. There won’t be a pair of football boots in sight as the Roscommon Ladies Rose Ball gets into full swing. It is a chance to see your club win its first county title of 2009 in what promises to be the social highlight of Roscommon Ladies GAA.
The event promises to be an exciting and entertaining event for all. There will be entertainment both on and off the stage and who knows you might even win a few euro if you can correctly predict the winning Rose. Anyone wishing to support Aine can contact Niamh Fallon 086-3681907, Kelly Killian 087-6478286 or Sean Murray 087-9573759. Tickets for the event cost only €15 and are available from any club official and there will be a bus running on the night. Best of luck to Aine from everyone at the club.

U16 Ladies Semi-Final
Clann na nGael 3-4 St Marys 5-7
Clann girls relinguished their under 16 title in the semi-final in Cushla Park on Sunday. Kayleigh Dunning opened the scoring with a neat point and Clann retook the lead when Aisling Lennon fired over from a tight angle. A great move was then finished to the net by Rebecca Naughton but that was the last time Clann lead in the game as St Marys scored 2-4 without reply to lead by 2-6 to 1-2 at the break and Clann had Caroline O’Neill in goal to thank for some brave saves. On the resumption a Gillian Egan point was followed by a brilliant goal from Ciava Dunning to leave just four points between the teams with just over 10minutes to go. But St Marys hit three goals in as many minutes to finish the match as a contest. A Gillian Egan effort on goal was pushed over the bar before wing back Gillian Wall stepped inside and let fly from 30 metres with the outside of the right foot into the top left corner for a great goal. On the day the team never really got going despite some great performances from Amy Curley, Katie Rock, Orla O’Neill, Rebecca Naughton and Aisling Lennon. Hopefully most of these players will have a say in under 14 and minor championships later in the year.
Team: Caroline O’Neill, Lianne O’Connor, Sorcha McManus, Jennifer Duignan, Gillian Wall 1-0, Amy Curley, Karen Nicholson, Kimberley Finlass, Orla O’Neill, Rebecca Naughton 1-0, Kayleigh Dunning 0-1, Gillian Egan 0-2, Aisling Lennon 0-1, Ciara Galvin, Ciava Dunning 1-0.
